It’s been some time since I talked about Pwimfeff. True Believers will remember it as the one-minute short film I made for the Gotta Minute Film Festival seven years ago. It wasn’t accepted, but I put it online because I was proud enough of it. Last year, on a whim, I entered it again, and this time it got in!
Remember? You can watch it here:
It didn’t win anything, but it’s still very cool to be one of thirty films accepted. I’ve never had a movie in a film festival before!
But then also! Recently! I created a piece of art based on Pwimfeff for a quaint little Valentines Day, Edmonton animation related art exhibit, (Put on by YEG Animation and hosted by Rolling Tales,) and that piece was on display for a bit!

It’s hard to believe I created Pwimfeff almost a decade ago. The things that bug me about it now are the same things that bugged me about it back then. I don’t think I have the working files anymore, I’d love to be able to turn down the flashing. Also, at the time, I purposefully went for a “I don’t really get digital painting” style because I didn’t really get digital painting. I do now, though, a bit better, so there are lots of little moments that make me go “ew, that’s too bad.”
Overall, though, I still think it spins a delightful little yarn over it’s sixty seconds of adventure, thrills, and romance.
