Plum

I was fortunate enough to have a short story called Plum published in For Page and Screen Magazine. It is what my work-in-progress play Footrub eventually became. But do not mourn Footrub. I guarantee you, Plum is the better piece of fiction. It is about a musician who learns to cook in an unconventional way.

So I’ve been doing this short story writing thing. I think I like it. I have so many ideas for movies and novels and plays and video games that I would have to find millions of dollars and live to be five hundred to finish them all. It’s been nice to realize that I can cut some of them down into short fiction and not lose much; if anything they get a lot more straightforward and refined. I have a bunch more written that I’ve been shopping around, and a few more I’m currently writing.

I really enjoyed reading the whole issue of this magazine. It has some really talented people in it, I’m honoured to be published with them.

Other fun things about Plum:

  • When I first read it aloud for my friends, I told them that it’s only the first part, and they told me that sure, but also, I had written a whole short story. Beginning, middle, and end.
  • I can now officially say I’ve had stories published.
  • The art in the magazine was done by me. I had the art ready because I was accepted into the AGA zine fair the year before but didn’t have any zines so I threw the first draft of Plum into InDesign and whipped up something quick for the cover. I passed it along to For Page and Screen because it exists so I thought they might want it for something.
